Abstract
The authors that Paulo Leminski chose to translate were generally revolutionary in their time and can be considered as references for the future of poetry. The Brazilian poet from Curitiba did not restrict himself to a passive adaptation in face of the translations he had done. On the contrary, the practice of translation was decisive in the construction of his own poiesis. The poet made his translation work reach the status of creation, by producing new originals that expressed, above all, his own poetics, as this paper will demonstrate. We will deal with the expressiveness that Leminski imprinted on the poetic translations from the American beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti, identifying the moments of re-creation of a poetry that, according to Leminski, is more connected to the spoken poem, as a kind of recital. These questions will be discussed by a close reading of “The Pennycandystore Beyond The El” in Leminski’s translation, aiming to highlight the singular antagonistic form of life of the new translated poem.
